"You'll cheer, You'll laugh, You'll cry, and most importantly, you'll want to dance" - Ain't It Cool News.

The award-winning true story of one of the funkiest bands of the Seventies that exploded out of the schoolyard. It was afros and pleated shirts, James Brown and Bootsy Collins.

It was the '70s, and an inner-city Houston high school was about to make history. Inspiring professor Conrad Johnson would turn a mediocre black inner-city school band into a funk powerhouse who went on to tour the world and release several award winning albums.

Now, 35 years later, his students reunite to pay tribute to the man who changed their lives. Some of these men and women, now in their mid-fifties, haven't played their instruments in decades. What happened next would prove an emotional homage to the man who gave them everything to live for. Multiple Audience award winner, Thunder Soul is a powerful document about the redemptive quality of music.

WINNER: SXSW Audience Award, HOT DOCS Audience Award.

NOMINEE: Best Music and Audience Award - IFA 2010. Best DOC - Independent Spirit Award 2010
