Backroads

Philip Noyce's first feature focuses on the relationship between two strangers, a white drifter and an Aborigine who needs to escape. They steal a beat-up Pontiac and take off on a wild flight across Australia, picking up Gary's uncle, a French hitchhiker and a young girl on the run. Their petty crimes escalate, heading for disaster. This 70s gem was shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Russell Boyd.
